After a long break, I have resumed reading. Reading is an activity that I have always wanted to pursue with a great zeal. People have said a lot about reading. Perhaps, I have nothing new to word. I personally believe, one should take reading as a hobby, and gradually, imbibe it as a habit. Good and directed reading helps a person grow better. I also see reading as a tool, taken in a positive stride, to virtually explore, an unseen or unreachable world around oneself and within oneself.
Although I am not a grave reader, I do try investing a part of my leisure time in reading. I don’t have favorite authors/books/publishers; neither my interest is inclined to specific subjects. I read what I feel worth reading – something that makes me feel contented.
Yet, I have a few authors to name – Dr. Sharad Thakar(A gyanecologist by profession, an author and a newspaper columnist from Gujarat), Mrs. Sudha Murthy, Mr. Vithal Kamat whose writings I always enjoy with a reason that I sense my feelings & thoughts echoed in their mulling (No deliberate tricks to make the reader conceive I am as great as these authors; I’m writing what is deep down in my heart). I am still looking to read more, such authors.
A couple of my past good reads worth mentioning includes Who Moved My Cheese by Spencer Johnson and Wings of Fire by Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. Sometimes we fail to keep up what we like. I did fail and had to abandon in the middle of reading 7 habits of highly effective people(by Stephen Covey) and Ignited Minds(by Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam), consecutively – for no apparent reason! But I am sure to finish them up in the next go. I have also read two of Chetan Bhagat’s writes: 5 point someone and One night at call center; but was not much influenced to pick up more of him.
And on top of all said, something that always suits my mood is children’s literature – carrying every bit of innocent fun mingled with quick wits! Everyday, when the newspaper knocks in, I pull out the kids’ section and read it thoroughly leaving no nooks and corners of it!!!!
Sigh, much scrambled! Concluding this post, with a few lines – a father says to his son Sydney (taken from my recent read “Sydney Sheldon – the other side of me”):
“Every day is a different page, Sydney, and they can be full of surprises. You’ll never know what’s next until you turn the page. I would hate to see you close the book too soon and miss all the excitement that could happen to you on the next page – the page you are going to write.”
PS: Constructive comments to this post are welcome – the reader can share his/her favorite reads or can express own opinions or views on reading activity.
